The objectives of the expedition were met with great success,
samples of the high quality synthetic cloth, cigarettes,
tape recorders and a few liquor bottles were collected
for examination, they were all returned to the wreck on
the last day. The team mapped the whole wreck in schematics
and video footages are also recorded. The team certainly
have a great time diving and working together during the
week. A host of media representative from the magazines,
press and television networks came by to document the
expedition. The expedition went on air on TV3 and came
out of many media sources throughout Malaysia.
THE CLOTH WRECK
DIVE EXPEDITION
INTRODUCTION
Tenggol Island, the capital of wreck diving in Malaysia
and has been regarded as the gateway to world class
site such as Cement and Cloth wreck. This forgotten
island are blessed with interesting wrecks that has
not been documented. The expedition will make up an
eight man team under the project to discover and document
these wrecks. Our guide will be avid expedition leader,
Michael Lim. These wrecks are known to be very few and
Michael researched and discovered most of these wrecks
sites.
The objective of the team is to dive and document these
wrecks and produce a film on it. There are a total of
4 wrecks discovered so far with depth ranging from 100
feet to 160 feet. This project however will be centered
on the most fascinating MV Lak Da or better known as the
Cloth wreck.
THE SEARCH FOR THE VESSEL

The Cloth wreck as known to the locals
has been researched and searched by the expedition
leader for 7 months in 1997. Finally on the last
trip before the monsoon an unintended attempt located
this mystical wreck.
Only 2 dives will make that year. The wreck is draped
by high quality sythentic blue cloth and sitting
proud upright in 165 feet of seawater.
She carries a Panamanian flag and went down with
all her cargo in a storm in 1983 while enrouting
from Singapore to the then Kampechea. Many hi-fi
stereos, liquor bottles and many other interesting
items lies all over the wreck. |
A pioneering trip was carried out once the season opens
duri ng end February. The team was overly impressed and
fascinated. The 240 feet vessel was dove and studied for
2 days. A full plan was drawn up by the leader for the
coming expedition which promise to be an exciting expedition.
EXPEDITION SCHEDULE
The expedition to film the cloth wreck and other wrecks
of Tenggol is scheduled for 15 days expedition in August
onboard a dive vessel.
PRODUCTION
HIGHLIGHTS
This production will be appealing as the water is clear
and teeming with marine life. Highlight will centre on
the cloth wreck, its content and last moments before sinking.
It will also cover Tenggol Island, a fascinating destination
of many interesting wrecks and marine environment.
